SAILvation, Inc. is a non-profit organization, based in St. Petersburg, Florida, that shares a passion for sailing with children and adults who would not otherwise have an opportunity to experience sailing, in order to build new knowledge and skills, as well as a more positive self-image. We offer three day sailing adventures, to Egmont Key, to socio-economically challenged teenage boys and girls and one day boating excursions to independently functioning handicapped individuals of all ages. Aboard Grand Nellie, a 75 foot steel-hulled tall ship schooner, these target groups will sail Tampa Bay, in an immersive, educational experience that will have a life-altering, positive impact on self-esteem and environmental knowledge and understanding. Participants work as a team on board, setting sails, steering, navigating and learning how to read the weather, nautical charts and tides. This program, however, is not simply about learning how to sail. We use the sailing experience as a catalyst for instilling some life skills, developing a participant’s character, self esteem and forging rewarding relationships with others. SAILvation provides an avenue for corporate and individual sponsors and volunteers to contribute to improving the lives and welfare of these individuals, their families and their communities.
